Memorial Day 2015

"Greater love has no man than this, that a man
lay down his life for his friends."
(John 15:3)

This morning I walked to the "teardrop" intersection in town to take part in the Memorial Day ceremony, only to discover I had the time right but the day wrong and the wreath had already been placed.

So instead, I took a photo walk down Main Street.

A Mother's Day to remember

"O LORD, what a variety of things you have
made! In wisdom you have made them all.
The earth is full of your creatures."
(Psalm 104:24)

It was a picture perfect day when my daughter and I headed out to Harpers Ferry.  We were going down to the river for a photo walk.

On the way to the parking lot, an unintentional detour led to what turned out to be the highlight of our day.

We had entered town from the wrong direction, so we made an unplanned stop at a lookout point to see the view from up there.

Just as we got out of our car, another car pulled into the lot, and a lady jumped out who excitedly pointed us to a nest of bald eagles in a distant tree.  She had come to observe them, and it was a most amazing sight we would surely have missed had we not taken that wrong turn and bumped into her.

We chatted and watched the eagles for a while, and our new friend turned out to be a very talented lady with a fascinating story to tell.  Before we left, she gifted us each with one of her HalfApp Journal Ts.  (Half App stands for halfway point on the Appalachian Trail, which runs from Georgia to Maine.)

The T-shirts come with an indelible marker and a lightweight backpack, and the idea is to use the shirt as a journal that you jot notes and draw points of interest on as you walk along the trail.  If you would like one, they can be purchased at the Country Cafe in Harpers Ferry.

We walked over to one more lookout point before heading for the parking lot, and I took many pictures of the beautiful flowers growing there.  This is but one of them.

It was hard to pick which other shots to post, but I finally managed to narrow them down to these few favorites taken mostly by the river and canal.

And then a few more on our way back to the shuttle bus...

...and the last two are of a home that caught my eye as we were driving back through town.

A Walk around town

"I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise
shall continually be in my mouth.  My soul
shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble
shall hear thereof, and be glad.  O magnify
the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name
together." -- (Psalm 34:1-3)

Some of my favorite shots taken while out for a walk on a particularly beautiful day.

I'm feeling blessed to have been planted in the midst of such a lovely little town.
