Beauty on My Window Sill

Flowering violets...

...Christmas cacti...

...and an unusual looking double bud.

I've never seen one of these before.  Have you?

Pops of Color

These beautiful pops of color really lifted my spirits today.

The bouquet of sunflowers was at Harris Teeter; the rest of them at Giant.

SWINTER

This word was coined by my very creative neologista wordsmith friend, Nancy, to describe the crazy weather we've been experiencing lately.

One day this...

        ...and the next day, that.

Spring is in the Air

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped
for, the evidence of things not seen."
(Hebrews 11:1)

It may not look like spring today, but the birds happily chirping in the trees give me hope that it's on the way.

Robins, Robins, Everywhere

It's bitter cold outside, a winter storm watch is part of tomorrow's forecast, but the birds have been happily chirping as though it were spring, and the trees outside my window are full of robins.

Watching the Geese Land

A few weeks ago, I was out without my camera and missed some great shots, such as a bunch of geese sitting on a frozen pond, and a family of deer standing on a snow covered lawn. Since then I've revisited those sites several times, at approximately the same time of day even, but not a goose or a deer could I find.

Today's quest started out just as disappointingly, but before heading for home, my photo-taking buddy and I decided to drive down a side street that looked as though it might have an unobstructed view of the setting sun. We parked in a cul-de-sac near a small lake to await that magical moment when the sky turns into a brilliant masterpiece.

Suddenly the silence was broken by cacophony overhead, and I looked up to see flocks and flocks of Canadian geese, honking loudly as they prepared to land.

Normally I have trouble focusing fast enough to capture flying birds, but there were so many, I couldn't miss.

The lake was still partially frozen over, so some geese settled on the ice, whilst others took to the water.

Thank you, Lord, for this unexpected sighting, and for the awesome sunset too.
